TRAC Development Group: Supporting and understanding financial sustainability

The TRAC Development Group (TDG) works to develop and advocate the Transparent Approach to Costing (TRAC) and provides support to the sector through the TRAC Support Unit.

This includes producing the TRAC Guidance. The group’s activities are funded and overseen by the Office for Students, Scottish Funding Council, Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, Department for the Economy (Northern Ireland) and UK Research and Innovation, working collaboratively as the Regulators and Funders (Financial Sustainability) Group. The TDG aims to embed the principles of the Transparent Approach to Costing (TRAC) throughout the UK higher education sector, and ensure that TRAC and any associated methodologies are fit for use by funding bodies and by institutions. The group works with a range of organisations, but in particular aims to serve the interests of TRAC practitioners, policy and strategic managers at institutions, and funding organisations.

Prior to 2019, the TDG was part of a two-tier structure responsible for governing and oversight of financial sustainability in the HE sector, supporting the work of the Financial Sustainability Strategy Group (FSSG).
